Scottie Scheffler or Bryson DeChambeau to Win the US Open? The Bookmakers’ Odds

As anticipation builds for the 2025 US Open next week, fans of golf are increasingly asking which of the many different competitors is likely to stand the best chance of bringing home a win. Indeed, there are some big names in the upcoming event, including the current world number one, Scottie Scheffler, as well as several other fan favourites, including Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau.

However, with odds all over the place at the moment and seeming to change on a whim, it’s not entirely clear which of these contenders is the most likely to pull off a win. To answer this, perhaps the easiest solution is to take a look at the bookies’ odds - and we’ll be delving into this today to see where the big name brands think favour should lie.

Scottie Scheffler: The Current Favourite to Win

American golfer, Scottie Scheffler, is currently in the runnings to start the US Open 2025 as the overall favourite, with bookies unanimous in the belief that he is likely to be the strongest contender. And, of course, as the world number one, Scottie’s been on incredible form this season, making him a sure choice for the favourite.

With all of that being said, while Scottie Scheffler is unanimously the favourite for the 2025 Open, his form hasn’t exactly blown the bookies out of the water. Indeed, his odds aren’t quite as short as one might expect for a player in his position. For example, at Unibet and LiveScore Bet, Scheffler is priced at 5/2 (3.5), while BetFred has him slightly longer at 3/1 (4.0). That’s not bad odds by any means, but it doesn’t show strong confidence in him to win either.

Strong Contenders: Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy

Although Scottie Scheffler is clearly in first place in the odds, and by quite a margin, it’s worth noting that there are several other players who also have pretty decent odds - and it wouldn’t be all that surprising for any of these to pull off a surprise win. Bryson DeChambeau is perhaps the strongest second choice, with his odds being consistent at 8/1 (9.0) with Unibet, BetFred, and LiveScore Bet.

Now, this is a long way removed from Scottie Scheffler’s odds of around 3/1. Nevertheless, while it is a jump, it does still indicate that it’s not out of the realm of possibility for DeChambeau to bring his A-Game to the Open and pull off a win. It’s not a two-horse race. Rory McIlroy is currently trading at around 9/1 (10.0), and Jon Rahm follows at 12/1 (13.0). Both are multiple major winners and proven performers under pressure, and either could challenge if conditions suit.

In addition to DeChambeau, another imposing presence on the golf course is likely to be Rory McIlroy, who has finally achieved his career goal of a Grand Slam after winning at the PGA Championships in April. While his odds are slightly longer still at around 9/1 (10.0), this still shows that the bookies have a pretty high level of confidence in his abilities.

Final Thoughts

As we’ve seen, while Scottie Scheffler enters the US Open as the clear favourite, he’s definitely not got the event in the bag just yet - and the bookies are looking equally uncertain. As such, it will be incredibly exciting to see how the first day in particular goes, and who knows who the final champion’ll be?
