Irish bookmaker favourites for the 2024 US Presidential Election

On Tuesday 5th November, Americans up and down the USA will be heading to the polls to have their say in who will be president for the next 4-year term.

Given the country’s huge global influence, world leaders will eagerly await the outcome.

US elections have become extremely polarising in recent years. Will we see the same extreme disparity between the Democrats and Republicans again?

It’s never without controversy, who can forget Trump’s false count claims last time around and foreign powers accused of meddling?

It’s been tight in recent years too, Biden won the 2020 election with just 51.3% of the popular vote, whereas in 2016 Trump received 45.9% which despite being fewer votes than his opponent Hilary Clinton, he won under the electoral college system having swung decisive states.

In this article, we’ll look at who the frontrunners are according to Irish bookmakers, as well as some unlikely outside bets.

Kamala Harris

The current vice president may or may not have been expecting to be in the hot seat by now, with current president Joe Biden formally withdrawing from the running earlier this summer.

Nevertheless, Kamala Harris is determined to lead the Democrats back into the White House and continue with the work that her predecessor has been building for the last few years.

Kamala Harris is already the highest-ranking female official in American history. Moreover, Harris currently leads opinion polls and the bookmakers have her down as becoming the first-ever female president of the United States of America.

At 4/5 for Harris though, there’s not much to split this pair at the time of writing.

Donald Trump

He’s controversial, he’s not afraid to be polarising, but one thing is for certain: Donald J Trump is influential and he still has a lot of die-hard fans.

Trump was always expected to try and regain his presidency and after a mixed rapport with senior Republicans, he battled on to become the official presidential nominee of the party in July.

Trump seems to be in a constant embroilment of court cases but his team are on a roll with a string of victories and his remaining cases are seemingly in Limbo. Throw in two failed assassination attempts and Trump always has to be where the drama is.

Nevertheless, the business mogul is still front and centre of the Republican party and their best chance to get back into power.

Political bookmakers in Ireland are struggling to call it, but Donald Trump is currently touted as the bookie’s second favourite with most books putting him down as evens.

J D Vance

Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick, James Donald Vance hasn’t always had the best things to say about his now running mate, yet he is one of the Republican party elect’s biggest allies these days.

Should Trump suddenly not be able to compete in the presidential race, Vance will be the man to step in for the Republicans.

Vance is a long shot, but with one frontrunner already pulling out of the race, it wouldn’t be absurd to see him suddenly facing off with Harris.

Michelle Obama

Ex-first lady Michelle Obama was speculatively touted as running for the Democratic party earlier this summer and some commentators claimed that she was the only person who could beat Trump following Biden pulling out of the face.

Governor Tim Walz has already been confirmed as Harris’ vice president-elect for the Democrats and yet, Obama sees herself as the fourth-placed favourite in the Irish betting market.

It’s hard to see how such an outcome could materialize but you never know what’s around the corner!
